    KING-SIZED BED-Kate

We have a king-sized bed.  We bought this bed when our youngest child turned 3 years old.  Both Gary and I were excited to replace the old queen that had served us through 3 children.  We searched for many months looking for the “right” bed.  We sat and lay upon many beds.  We spoke with many bed store representatives.  We saved our money to pay cash for our bed.  Finally, after we gathered our resources, and research-we bought our bed.  Because we didn’t have extra money to pay for delivery, we placed the mattresses in the back of our truck and hauled the new bed across town in 2 trips.  We removed the old queen bed, and gleefully set up and made our new king-sized bed.  Little did we know, that our bed would no longer be ours...

    The Wenatchee Vortex

Wenatchee makes my top ten list of things I didn't think I do. Although I was raised here both I & my parents left shortly after I graduated from High School. I managed not to come back for 7 years. But then it happened.....the Wenatchee Vortex got me: Yep, I fell in love with & married a hometown boy. One of my brother's best friends, in fact (oops!) This all surprised me because I didn't think I'd end up back here. I used to shy away from the vortex....when I first moved back I hated going to the grocery store because of running into people I hadn't see in a decade and didn't know if they'd remember me or if I'd recall how exactly I knew them. Along my path back to Wenatchee I did grow accostom to a plethora of small world experiences relating to the vortex:

    Swimming Locusts-Kate

I know we have all had one of THOSE days.  You know the days where you have everything planned out perfectly, and timed to the exact minute?  You know the day where you wake up early to get a little time to yourself before the big rush?  You know the day where you are on your groove?

My house wakes at 5:30am.  Actually, Gary gets up at 5:00, but he spends ½ hour in the shower, so the house isn’t awake until I get up at 5:30.

The Girl Who Cried Wolf….I Mean BEAR! - Becky Driscoll

Our 6-year-old is going through some growing pains.  No, I am not talking about the kind that keep her up at night begging for a leg rub.  They are more the emotional type that come with literally being the new kid on the block.  My generally adventurous bike rider, ski runner, rock jumper has taken to whimpering at the smallest bruise and screaming bloody murder at the site of an

    Obesity and Overweight-Kate

The injuries and surgeries are more dangerous because of the extra weight our society carries.  Technology has made it so that the procedures from earlier in her career can be accomplished with less risk.  However, it is the condition of the patients’ body that has pushed the risk higher, and that condition has increasingly been the weight of the patient.  As I left the ICU that day, I heard them announce that 2 more open hearts would be arriving soon-one of them was 345 pounds, the next one was 380 pounds.
