Take your kids to a service project this Make A Difference Day -

Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows that I am deeply rooted with a few non-profit organizations (Junior Service League of Wenatchee, Festival of Trees, and the Wenatchee Downtown Association).  At time my husband wonders if my talents could be put to a more "profitable pursuit" instead of "giving away" my time and skills.  Not to say my hunky husband is not compassionate, it is that he sees the labor, the time, the stress, the meetings away from home...the work (volunteering is work, make no mistake!). I always tell him that it will all pan out in the long run

I guess my purpose in volunteering is to create a sense of civic involvement and responsibility in my children.  Sometimes my involvement with the non-profit groups

    I love me too!

Well it is week four (4) of the new diet and exercise regimine and I cannot believe the difference already!  I have lost 7 pounds - yep the same as last week BUT I feel better.  My energy is up.  My household is happy.  But more importantly I AM HAPPY!!  I really feel a whole lot better than I did just over 3 weeks ago.  I knew I had a long way to go physically but I was not fully aware of how emotionally low I was sinking.  True, the path is not completely paved, but I see more opportunities toward success.

As most of you know, I take one day a week to indulge in the "forbidden" foods such as high sugar foods, wine, fatty foods, and all the others....no need to list them all, you know what I am talking about.  Yesterday was my day off but instead of taking time with the yummy things I have given up, I took time for me.  I had a body treatment and my hair done.  I actually even splurged on some super cute kicks! Slide on black boots with rustic buttons.  FUN!!

I guess the tie to MyFamilyCompass.com is that parents are the captains of the home.  When the ship is not in order, the crew knows it.  They are affected by it.  Mothers seem to carry most of the responsibilities of steering the ship of household.  We also seem to give up a little more of ourselves in the process.  Through this weight loss process I am inadvertantly reclaiming that self I offered so freely.  Not that I am complaining or blaming, I am just starting a new process to feel more complete as a person - mother, wife, sister, daughter, manager, owner, and friend.

Week two begins with flecks of pain....

How I feel is complicated -sore but excited.

I should first say thank you!!  Many of you took the time to cruise over to my weight loss blog http://www.myfamilycompass.com/beckys-journey-to-thin to scope out the pictures.  Embarrassing as they are,  I am over that fear and glad I did it.  I encountered 5 people in person this week.  I was greeted with hugs of support, words of encouragement, and all together positive remarks about what I am doing.  So I no longer feel it is absurd.  In a bizarre way, it brings you closer to me.  And I like that!

This week has been laced with sleepless night (gratis Addie), busy days, sore muscles, diet change, but being accountable has pushed me to make my goals and

May we never lose the wonder of it... Becky Driscoll

    Come the holiday season...

There can be never be too much snow in a water globe, on the lawn or at the ski hill.

There can be never too many decorations around the house or around town.

There can be never be too many renditions (or replaying) of Santa Baby.

But why is it that there can be too many calories in a slab of dark chocolate fudge or caramel corn?

SAHD - Stay At Home Dad - Becky Driscoll

These past 3 Saturdays I've had the opportunity to give my husband the experience what life might be like as a Stay-At-Home mom. An employee at the winery has had foot surgery and I get to fill in

Here's how days as a temporary SAHD have gone thus far:
    1) Get up with Addie between 6:00 AM- 6:30 AM. Addie is an early riser but so is Scott, and as long
