The proof is in the puddin' - Becky Driscoll
Monday, January 4, 2010 at 8:28PM Today, I have begun a new journey. No. Not a journey – an expedition. I have it all mapped out. I have considered each route, and believe I have the best one laid out. I acquired the appropriate gear to make it a little easier going. I have been so thorough, I even considered what to eat along the way. Success means a passage of immense symbolic significance. Join me each Monday, as I share my journal of triumphs and challenges along the way to losing 25 lbs of body fat and reclaiming my wardrobe!
"A journey of 10000 steps begins with the first single step"
Today was DAY 1: I took the horrid body composition test. It reads how much body fat I have, and how much lean muscle I have. WOW! – I am at an all-time high at 26.9%. That means that my 5’9” frame at 170lbs manages 45.71 lbs of PURE fat. Incredible. I could give 1000 explanations as to how this happened BUT plain and simpe - it did. Now I have to fashion a way back. I have to be disciplined but find peace with my course. I have to be tough with my priorities but gentle with my confidence.
So, you can't know where to go if you don't have bearings on where you ARE. So, I took photos of myself from the side, back and front in a bathing suit that fit like-a-glove before my pregnancy with Addie. Actually Tori did – that is where the remark “pudding’” comes from. Although it hurt to hear her say it, I knew what exactly what she was describing. Since this is a family site, I am waiting to post the images....but trust me -THEY ARE SCAARRRRY!!! I will post them to a new blog I am starting written for this experiment.
So, I post to this journey to MyFamilyCompass.com to keep me accountable. I know some of you are out there feeling this way too. We, as mothers, tend to put ourselves on hold. That is exactly what I have done. Granted, I did by choice. So, now I choose differently. From today on I promise to carve out time from the day to spend on myself. I promise to plan for success. And, crash-n-burn or exerberant backflips, I promise to keep you in my weight loss loop.
FYI - Goals for Tuesday, January 5th – DAY TWO
20 minutes of Cardio
write the 2nd week of my menu
buy bananas, and rest of grocery list

I've used a plethora of excuses such as spending time with my kiddos, getting things done around the house and there just isn't time. But, my doctor pointed out to me that just as important as spending time with your kids is showing them how to spend time: we must model taking care of ourselves and valuing ourselves just as much as we do them. A sinking ship cannot save the passengers! Good Luck Becky and Good for you! xoSara
Have you ever done the fitness test on the Wii and created a Mii - it is pretty funny, however, a bit disturbing when you see what a computer thinks you look like with just data entered. If you have a Wii and Wii fit give it a try. JB
Thanks Jane and Sara!
Sara - it seems the ONLY time a do anything physical is when I am doing it with my kids. I am finding it harder and harder to keep up as you can imagine, schlepping around an extra 45 pounds! I am stoked about the exercise routine. It is interval training for 20 minutes...I can do that instead of watching Jimmy kimmel....thanks for the support! - Becky
Jane - We don't Wii here...maybe this is a good reason to buy it! SCOTT??!? Speaking of wee - did I tell you Addie went 3 times on the potty? YAHOO!
Becky, I so understand what you're dealing with--extra pounds and no comfortable clothes. People don't understand my complaining because I am small, but--man--ten pounds on my 5'2" frame is a large gain. And it all goes around the middle. I'm trying my best to watch the sugar and get some excersize. Here's to a new year!
i started my expedition in Dec and am wondering if i am climbing Mt. Everest!!!
