SAHD - Stay At Home Dad - Becky Driscoll
Monday, December 14, 2009 at 7:07AM These past 3 Saturdays I've had the opportunity to give my husband the experience what life might be like as a Stay-At-Home mom. An employee at the winery has had foot surgery and I get to fill in
Here's how days as a temporary SAHD have gone thus far:
1) Get up with Addie between 6:00 AM- 6:30 AM. Addie is an early riser but so is Scott, and as long as he has one free hand for his coffee mug I am sure he will do fine.
2) Take Rainier (dog) outside for fresh air, potty break and good old dog stretch.
3) Go back in the house at about 7:00 AM to check on Tori. She's usually getting up about that time for school.
4) Make breakfast for the kids and check to see if Rainier is interested in eating. Refill his rather large water bowl.
5) Help the kids clean up after breakfast and play with them a bit.
6) Seaon the prime rib - family comes tonight!
7) Get the kids dressed and gear packed and head out the door no later than 10:15 AM to take them in to see Santa, sit on hs lap and get those adorable photos for lifetime memories.
8) Chat with other local parents doing the same thing at the Convention Center - waiting in a very long line for photos with Santa (very nice socialization time).
9) Meet a friend for lunch at McGlinns.
10) Go back home, go to the store and do shopping without having to drag 2 small children in and out of the car with me (shopping alone, what a novel concept)!
11) Go back home, straighten up the house a bit...sister and brother-in-law are coming to see the lights in Leavenworth
12) Get the kids a snack because they're both hungry and crabby!
13) Play with them a bit, then put them down for a nap at 2:00 PM.
14) While the Addie is napping, get Tori some paper, do some laundry, etc.
15) When the Addie gets up around 3:30 PM- 4:00 PM, feed both kids a light snack, and get them involved in some activity or playing together.
16) Start dinner - yum Prime Rib!
17) Greet the inlaws and their three (uh-huh 3!) kids and wait for me to arrive home so that we can sit down together for a meal.
18) After dinner, straighten up the kitfchen (now there are reinforcements)
19) help get all kids packed, dressed and in winter gear to stroll the 17 degree weather streets of Little Bavaria
20) Get home, help change nieces and nephew into bed gear - get in laws on the road, put our own kids to sleep....
When ll was quiet we talked about the hectic day we both ahd... here were some observations about his temporary SAHD status:
1) The day flies by far quicker than imaginable
2) Can't get as much accomplished as you think you will! How does that happen?
2) It's nice not to have to be in such a frantic rush all day.
3) It's nice to have some adult time alone, time that's not at a business.
4) Can't pee in peace...
5) definitly at more staying at home than when at work (mandatory snack breaks!)
6) Having kids that are at an age when they can be a bit independent helps.
All-in-all, he said he was thankful to have the girls all to himself but was wiped out from the mad rush to get to all the places, cook the meals, keep order, and entertain them....he admitted he'd do it again but was not his cup o' tea.
